Forgotten Teams

If you take a look at the 12 original founding members of the Football League, you will see a proud group. 11 of which are still active, to varying degrees of success, in the English League structure.

Only Accrington from this list are no longer active. Of course, Accrington Stanley (who are they?!) are still in existence but they are not the same club as the original Accrington - indeed, they're not even the original Accrington Stanley!

If you consider the list of clubs involved in the formation of the Football Association the passage of time is less kind. Of this group of 12, none are currently playing professional football. However, it is interesting to note that 2 of them, Blackheath and Barnes are still operating as Rugby Clubs.
