Qualification

Qualifying started on 15 June 2011 and finishing on 20 November 2013. In total, including hosts Brazil, 32 teams qualified for the tournament. Holders Spain were required to qualify too - and they did, being one of Europe's 13 Qualifiers.

5 African nations qualified. They are:

Algeria
Cameroon
Ghana
Ivory Coast
Nigeria

Asia

Asia had a chance for 5 qualifiers, 4 directly from the Asian qualifying process and a 5th from a play off with the South American Group. In the event, after Jordan lost their play off with Uruguay just four teams qualified:

Europe

Including holders Spain,Europe has the largest number of qualifiers - 13:

North, Central America & Caribbean

3 teams qualified directly from the qualifying pool with a fourth team, Mexico qualifying from a play off with the winners of the Oceania qualifying group, New Zealand:

South America

From South America 6 teams will compete, 5 qualifiers, plus hosts Brazil:

Argentina
Brazil
Chile
Colombia
Ecuador
Uruguay (play off winners versus Jordan)

Oceania

New Zealand won the Oceania qualifying group but then still had to play off with Mexico in order to qualify, a tie which they lost.
