Well didn't that end up as predicted?! OK, I may have not quite got the second place team correct, but I did say that it was inconceivable that the Germans would not qualify.
Right up until the eightieth minute of the final pair of games there was the possibility that Denmark might have sprung the surprise that I predicted. Lars Bender's goal put paid to that.
What nobody could have predicted was quite how poor the Dutch were. Going home with null points is nothing short of disgraceful for a nation with such a football heritage.
Anyway, here's what I said originally...
This is a stinker of a group. Volatile neighbours pitted together plus the Danes and Portugal promises to be quite a mix.
If past performance is anything to go by then Germany and the Netherlands should be the ones to escape the group. That said, Portugal will be very difficult to beat and Denmark may spring a surprise.
It is completely inconceivable that Germany won't qualify - they have suffered such a fate, but these were in re-building years. After their strong showing in WC2010 when two stunning four goal performances against England and Argentina saw them reach the semi-final where they lost to eventual champions Spain, I expect them to go very close to winning the whole thing here.
